How to Stay Productive During Winter Storms
Well winter is officially here and a huge bomb cyclone (yeah we had to look that one up too…) and polar vortex, with high winds and way too much snow is set to hit a good portion of the eastern coast of the U.S. this week.
But don’t let the weather ruin your day, or your productivity! You can get just as much done while working from home (and staying comfy in your pajamas) with tools like join.me. Here are our top tips for making sure winter storms don’t put a pause on productivity.
1. Get Comfortable and Focused. It’s really easy to fall down the rabbit hole of distractions in your own home. From catching up on Netflix to reorganizing your closet, there are a million and one distractions at home. Before you even open your laptop find a place in your house where you can concentrate solely on work. Pop in your headphones and turn on some music to help you focus. Here are few criteria you can use to decide where to post up:
2. Set Goals for the Day. Set a few goals for yourself for the day and strive to hit each goal by certain times in the day. When working from home it’s easy to get distracted and push tasks for later in the day. You don’t want to look at the clock, realize it’s dinner time and start stressing that not a single thing has been checked off your list. I love to use Trello to keep with daily tasks and stay up to date on my team’s progress and tasks. This is especially convenient when I can’t just walk over to their desks and get a status update because we’re all snowed in!
3. Stay Connected. just because it snows, that doesn’t mean work is on hold, especially if you work at a global company! Make sure you are accessible to anyone, anywhere for quick ad-hoc collaboration or for a pre-planned meeting. With tools like Slack I can quickly get a question answered, but if I need to have a more collaborative conversation, I always jump on a join.me meeting. Whether it’s sharing my screen or getting on a video call, join.me integrations make it easy to stay in touch with all your favorite apps in one place.
4. Take A Break and Enjoy The Snow. Our snow days may be quite different from when we were kids, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun! Take a break between calls to make some hot chocolate loaded with marshmallows and watch the snow fall from the warmth of your home. Or try to get stuff done in the early-morning hours to give yourself a bit of time to enjoy the snow in the afternoon. The best thing about being productive when you’re snowed in is that when you close up your laptop for the day, you will actually feel accomplished.
